Characteristics of the Pulvis clutch

Load-relief on startup of motor: Squirrel-cage motors start up virtually free of load, despite full load. The current surge to the network is significantly reduced.
Gentle startup of machine: The driven machine is gradually picked up and successively brought up to full rotational speed.
Regulation of startup time: The time taken to start up can be selected within certain limits by appropriate choice of clutch size and powder quantity.
Adjustment of power: Each PULVIS clutch can be adjusted within a certain power range for different transmission values by changing the filling quantity.
Rotates in any direction: PULVIS clutches can run in both directions (horizontal).
Increased starting torque: The PULVIS clutch is capable of transmitting an increased starting torque. This can be regulated by adjusting the powder filling.
Sudden overloading: If the driven machine is temporarily overloaded, then slippage occurs immediately in the PULVIS clutch and the motor continues to run with only slightly increased current consumption and almost normal rotational speed.
If the driven part is completely braked, the motor consumes a higher current, causing the motor-protection switch to respond automatically, thus protecting the entire installation against further damage.
Overload signal: Any overload can be indicated either acoustically or optically.
Continuity of operation: After the temporary overload has been overcome by the PULVIS clutch or the cause of the fault has been eliminated, operation is continued immediately.
Cheaper types of motor: The PULVIS clutch allows the use of cheaper and more economical squirrel-cage motors where expensive slip-ring rotor engines were previously used.
Motors without overload reserve: The PULVIS clutch allows the maximum or continuous load of any motor to be limited to a desired value. This makes overdimensioned motors unnecessary and prevents the windings from being burnt out.
Preservation of drive belts and gears: The unpleasant consequences of heavy belt-slippage during pulses and overloads are prevented and gears are protected against damage due to the plastic quality of the PULVIS clutch.
Reduction in plant costs: The additional costs for startup apparatus, stronger drive components, overdimensioned drive belts etc. are eliminated.
Efficiency: The efficiency and power factor of the plant are improved.
Working principle: The action of the PULVIS clutch is based on the principle of centrifugal force. The rotational speed must therefore be at least 500 rpm, otherwise the clutch is technically and economically unfeasible
