Legal definition of psychotherapy
§ 1. (1) The practice of psychotherapie in the meaning of this federal law is the comprehensive and planned treatment of psychosocial or psychosomatic originated disorders or states of suffering. Psychotherapy is based on a general and special training with scientific psychotherapeutic methods in interactions between one or more psychotherapists and one or more clients with the goal of reducing or alleviating Symptoms zu mildern oder zu beseitigen, change disturbed attitudes and/or behaviours and support the maturing , development and health of the client .
Discretion
Whatever you tell in psychological or psychotherapeutic session is guarded by the very strong discretion provisions of the Austrian psychotherapy law.

Financial structure
Ein Erstgespräch im Ausmass von 20 Minuten ist unentgeltlich, wenn Sie sich innerhalb dieser 20 Minuten entscheiden, die Psychotherapie nicht zu beginnen.
An orientation talk of 25 min, ist free of charge, if you decide not to start the psychotherapy within those 25 minutes and declare it then. The fee for 50 min. psychotherapy is € 145.
If you are regularily employed in Austria the general employee social insurance (Gebietskrankenkasse) will refund you € 28,- (starting with 01.09.2018). The fees for Psychotherapy may be tax deductible as extraordinary burden. Following an EU regulation Psychotherapy is free of VAT tax.
No show policy
The session also has to be payed, if not cancelled 24 hours before (exceptions: medically confirmed illness or accident)
Please bring latest to the second session the form from your medical general practitioner that from his perspective there are no objections against psychotherapy with you, otherwise the social insurance will not refund.
Befor the 5th session the psychotherapist has to sign the application and you have to forward it to the social insurance company (Gebietskrankenkasse).
